Construction is
underway on the first Dream Center in the Community. The Dream Center
is an Outreach Center for the entire Oak Grove area, being built
by S&T at no charge.
Dream Center programs include:
KidCare America - An after school program that tutors and
mentors students for the
Oak Grove schools who are struggling in their academic studies.
They also offer nutritious snacks and activities, home visits and
cooperative school visits. KidCare is currently housed at New Life
Assembly of God Church in Oak Grove, but is limited with the availability
of the rooms in the facility, at this time they are unable to add
more students to the much needed program.
Adopt A Block - This outreach began over a year
ago. The object is to pick a block and visit every household on
that block once a week. Residents are give donated items, such as
breads, cookies, light bulbs, etc. If their families have specific
needs, whether material needs, or just a friendly smile we try to
meet hose needs whenever possible.
Food Pantry - We would like to partner with the
Community Service League providing a storehouse of food staples
where struggling families could come and get supplemental food items
to get them through difficult times.
Unwed-Mothers - Providing free counseling, resource
information, baby needs such as diapers, formula, etc.
Clothes Closet - Providing new and used clothes
to those in need.
Music - We have volunteers, providing free piano,
guitar and voice lessons.
English as a Second Language - Classes are offered
to provide the Spanish speaking community the opportunity to improve
their English skills.
Youth - We would like to offer the youth of Oak
Grove a safe and wholesome environment where they will be offered
a variety of activities and entertainment geared to their needs
and likes.
Life Skills - Our goal here is to equip families
with ways to improve their overall home life. We will provide seminars
on finances, marriage and parenting. Other vocational skills will
be offered such as cooking, sewing, auto mechanics, etc.
Elderly - We want to provide for the elderly in
our community free medical screening, lawn care service, snow removal,
general household maintenance, and some transportation opportunities.
S&T intends to build additional Dream Centers in the Kansas
City Metro area. The overall countless ways we want to meet needs
in the community can be met and many lives can be turned around
through these programs.
Donations are needed now. Please contact us if you can
help in any way.
